CALGARY, Alberta — The Calgary community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 11-year-old Parker Wells, the autistic boy whose disappearance prompted a massive citywide search. After four days of intensive efforts by police, emergency responders, volunteers, and residents, authorities have announced that Parker is now presumed dead.
The devastating update follows an extensive search operation that united hundreds of people in the hope of bringing the young boy home safely. Throughout the search, the community rallied behind Parker’s family, demonstrating extraordinary compassion and determination.
According to the Calgary Police Service, Parker was last believed to have been seen in the Thorncliffe neighborhood between approximately 12:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. He was reported missing shortly afterward, prompting an urgent response because he was non-verbal, autistic, and considered especially vulnerable. Investigators advised that Parker could become frightened if approached by unfamiliar people.
Police employed specialized search techniques tailored to Parker’s needs, including broadcasting Disney music from patrol vehicles because of his known interest in it. Officers also asked residents to carefully search sheds, garages, unlocked vehicles, RVs, swimming pools, hot tubs, and other locations where a child might seek shelter or wander unnoticed.
Parker was described as approximately 4 feet 11 inches (150 cm) tall, weighing about 90 pounds (41 kg), with brown hair and brown eyes. Investigators believed he may have been wearing grey shorts, black Skechers shoes, black noise-cancelling headphones, and possibly no shirt when he disappeared.
During the search, clothing believed to belong to Parker was discovered in the 0–100 block of Northmount Drive N.W., prompting investigators to concentrate additional resources in the surrounding area.
More than 200 police officers, alongside volunteers and community members, searched neighborhoods, parks, green spaces, and nearby waterways. Throughout the investigation, police stated there was no evidence of foul play and believed Parker may have wandered away from home.
